Been a cowboy most of my life, borned on the rim of Palo Duro Canyon, in Amarillo, Texas, reckon the best cowboy I ever worked with was Ben Johnson, yea, he was an actor, but ask anyone who knew him, he was a cowboy first and stayed that way all his life, have two real cowboy hero's..Charley Goodnight and Jack Lewis, Jack being an uncle of mine, took the time to show me the ropes, always mounted me with good stock..guess Willie knew what he was writing about when he done.."My Hero's Have Always Been Cowboys".....

Been a good many years ago, I was 15 years old, always loved music, was working on the old Frying Pan Ranch, west of Amarillo tx....90 bucks a month, and room and board..was prowling cows one hot day, on a young horse, not too far from Tascosa Texas...had a french harp in my pocket, was warm and always lazy, just got that old harp out and was trying to play the tune.."HIGH NOON"..on the first toot I made, got my butt bucked off, should have known that on such a young horse..followed "Popcorn" for seven miles to the bunkhouse, beggin him to stop, he would stop and look back, draggin them reins, sorta like he was laughing at me....but, I found out why they called him "POPCORN"...I am still living and still learning, thanks to the good Lord......
