Bio:
Lynn Hollyfield, a powerful singer-songwriter, sings and plays her way into your soul. Hollyfield’s passionate vocal style and crisp guitar playing stem from a wide array of influences from contemporary folk artists to classic blues and jazz. LAYERS, her new solo recording, exploded on the folk scene in 2010, receiving air play and great reviews-nationally and internationally-marking her as a rising star of contemporary folk. Layers, is listed on the FolkDJ Playlist for TOP Albums of 2010. Her songwriting has been acknowledged many times over as a MASC winner (Mid-Atlantic Song Writing Contest) and most recently for Layers and Boats Gone By, from the new recording. Hollyfield received 4 WAMMIE nominations (Washington Area Music Association Awards-2011) for her work~BEST Contemporary Folk Female Vocalist, BEST Contemporary Folk Recording, BEST Debut Recording and Songwriter of the Year. Lynn Hollyfield's original songs have well-crafted melodies, stand-alone lyrics and striking emotional depth. Her songwriting is truly outstanding, and stands up well if compared to the likes of Sarah McLachlan, Rosanne Cash, and the best of today’s contemporary songwriters. Hollyfield’s musical influences draw from Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Sara McLachlan, Tom Prasada-Rao, Neil Young and the Jazz greats of Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and KD Lang. Her vocals are powerful and sensitive, often described as sultry and sensuous. Her songwriting “celebrates the truly important things in life – the journey not the destination.” (Jane Woods/Fanrealm.com) Lynn Hollyfield performs through out the Washington DC area and is preparing to attend the Kerrville Folk Festival 2011, Kerrville, TX in May/June 2011. After a serendipitous meeting with Folk Legend, Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary) that included playing and singing, Lynn was gifted with a ticket to the Kerrville Folk Festival. Hollyfield supports local music by hosting the monthly, SAW Open Mic (Songwriter’s Association of Washington) at the New Deal Café, Greenbelt, MD and by producing 5 concerts at the volunteer run, Homegrown Coffeehouse, held at the National Colonial Farm, Accokeek, MD. www.lynnhollyfield.com facebook, reverbnation, myspace
