Bio:
John Barrell has been living and playing in various bands in Alexandria, Louisiana since 1982. His latest musical project, TRANSITIONS, is a compilation of his various styles, influences and talents as a musician. John enjoys playing music both as a member of local rock band RELIX and creating music on the side as a solo artist. Along with being a strong vocalist his primary musical instruments of choice are Rhythm Guitar and 12-String but is also accomplished at the Bass and Lead guitar and some Ukulele, Indian Sitar and Egyptian Oud. About 2006 John began playing music with some local musicians and they formed the band RELIX. Since then they have developed a small but loyal following and keep very busy playing local venues every weekend and on occasion even two shows in the same day. As a group, they play mostly cover tunes but also write some of their own material. This experience ignited a new fire and passion within John and he began to write and record on his own with the blessings of his band brothers. One song, “Breaking Away” features the talents of the entire band. On many songs you will also find the talent of friends, family and fellow musicians. TRANSITIONS is a compilation of songs that have defined stages in John’s life as a musician. Some songs are over 30 years old, such as “Plastic Foxes” while others, such as “You & I” and “Every Little Thing” have been written more recently and reflect the relationship he has with his wife. One of the most unique aspects of the album TRANSITIONS is the fact that each song has a different feel and vibe to it. There is a musical style to meet everyone’s taste. Some songs are melodic ballads while others definitely fall into the head-banging, fist pumping area and the rest fall in-between to the more classic rock vein. TRANSITIONS is a musical journey of John’s life and growth as an artist. As you listen to the album, allow yourself to be swept along on the journey as well and enjoy the trip!

Solo Show and MORE!

Posted on December 12, 2011 at 9:51pm 0 Comments

Recently returned from Houston, TX where my wife was in charge of hosting her company's annual conference, and of course I was "volunteered" to help her out! Initially, one of her co-workers suggested doing Campfire/Sing-a-Long's one of the nights and I was put together with him to work out details and so we could supply the jams together. Well, last minute he was sent out on a job out of the country so I was on my…

REUNION!

This past weekend was not only a couple of great Halloween Shows, but it saw the return of the full RELIX line-up since August of 2010!

Steve was ok'd by his doctor to start playing the drums again... he's still a bit sore and stiff and enduring PT, but it was great to get the call that he was able to play and sing again!

As soon as Steve was ready we began rehearsals with our fill-in for Chris and were just a few days away from back-to-back Halloween shows when Chris…

UPDATE:

Via phonecalls and emails to Chris letting him know about the outporing of messages we've recieved through various outlets, he and his wife thank everyone for their prayers & well wishes. His wife was admitted to Willis-Knighton in Shreveport & dr's there think tests done in Alexandria may've been misread (likely a false positive). Her pain is being managed, a tumor is obstructing kidney but a procedure Monday to put in a stint - further tests, etc, but looking much more HOPEFUL!

CANCELATION

The thoughts and prayers of all of us in RELIX are with our Lead Guitarist, Chris Gaspard, as he heads to Shreveport, LA with his wife to a hospital that specializes in cancer treatment. His wife has undergone a tough round of radiation and chemo over this past year and it looked like she was turning the corner and beating it, but apparently things took a turn for the worse a few nights ago and it was discovered upon testing that a large tumor… Continue

Thanks John,

I'm an investor who promotes musicians, concerts, music festivals, live venues, and recently we decided to start an Indie label, AM Music. I'm reaching out via social media to let artists know how to make a living doing what you love.

There are so many talented musicians who don't have the knowledge or resources to be heard. We want to change that, and it involves more than just music and business practices. To learn more visit GwhoTube.

Have a great Mother's Day weekend!
Peace ~ Gary
