Hampate Sahel Blues
Mapathe Gaye, whose real name, was born in 1980 walo-walo father (original Fulani) and mother Lebu. He was born in Serer country, has Tattaguine (bird-transponder) Fatick region. His father was employed as a sub-prefect. The family dissolved when he was only two years. He was sent to Dagana (Saint-Louis) in a paternal aunt who will be responsible for raising. It will live over there fifteen years, only child, separated from his mother, with the only family circle this aunt, childless , who educate severely. From that time he will learn a great moral force and an indomitable will. Above all he will meet what has become his life to music. To understand inspiration we must look at the town of Dagana, capital of Wallo, characterized by its ethnic and brassge culturel.Cette city had long been an exchange point, a rallying of trans-Saharan nomads. It featured ethnic Wollof, Fulani, Soninke and Berber Moors. Mapathe ensures that this melting pot in which he bathed every sone enfancel'a influenced his musical tastes. Ila was attracted by these very early Moorish melodies called "Jaguar Night" coming from the other side of the river. Attracted also by the echo of these sounds: Fulani, Bambara, solinkés carried by the river and deposited there with the folklore local. In 1998, driven by the fashion of hip-hop, he formed a group with friends. But perfectionist, he realizes that it lacks some essential basics. In 2000, he returned then at the conservatory in Dakar. Mapathe be defined himself as a "jack of all trades" as being constantly in "quest". It is very curious and open to everyone and everything, remembered as one of his teachers saw him as a brilliant student. In 2005, after five years of conservatory Mapathe comes out as a guitarist and composer. Rich in teachings and experience, he excels in the art of blending the sounds of jazz and rhythm and blues melodies and harmonies with the sounds of the Sahel. He began playing solo with his guitar in bars and restaurants in Dakar. Some success Youssou Ndour, Baba Maal, Ismael Lo repertoire more rapidly his compositions. 2077: He formed his own group he calls "the Sahel-Hampate & Blues. This group is composed of five professional musicians. Why this name? This is actually an amalgam of his real name, and that of Amadou Mapathe Hampathé ba. A personal tribute to this champion of African oral culture, and Fulani in particular, the great sage of the Sahel. Hampate For the music is a real rallying bridge between peoples, the very basis of the acceptance of miscegenation. Sahel Blues expresses our moods, our fears, our experiences, our hopes, our history. Since 2007, the group travels Dakar and its surroundings, present in all major festivals (festival of Goree, blues, youth) occurs in large hotels (Meridian), in more intimate rooms (villa crystal, blue note, just 4 you) and large parties or events (festart, the 50th anniversary of the French Institute has dakar, gala evening with the Senegalese Press Agency) 2012 will see the release of their debut album, lyrics and music composed by Mapathe for Hampaté
