Since the dawn of time, one of the biggest mysteries in mankind's history has been the ever-expanding infinity of space. Humanity's greatest minds in all ages of civilization have attempted to dive into the cosmos' infallible depths, with fruitful results (Keplar, Copernicus, Ptolemy, etc.)...but even then, they had only barely and briefly scratched the surface. The Universe is one of chaos, bending all forms of matter and time into veritable nothingness...quite influential for one such musical group....... NEXUS was formed in early 2001 by songwriter/instrumentalist William Smith for the sole purpose of creating atmospheric music which would not conform or compromise for anything save for its creator's whims, using heavy metal as a foundation into something much more otherworldly. After a few initial attempts to achieve such a sound, that mindset was put to the test wtiht the composition of the first full-length album, "Polaris", in 2002. More old-school speed/heavy metal in approach, but with a 100% instrumental intent, "Polaris" set the stage for the sound to evolve..... 2003 was also the year in which William joined the rank of bass player for the Chicago-based black metal band WITHERING SOUL, which saw much of his time being devoted to that, until inspiration struck once more in early 2005. This time influenced by progressive and Swedish death metal, William put the keyboards as the main instrument for a new batch of compositions which would become the next EP, "Demo 2005" (2005). The album saw a drastic change in NEXUS' sound; though still metal, the keyboards became the predominant instrument, and the melodies for that and the guitar work became more progressive, creating a much more dramatic tone to the music. The EP saw nothing but praise, which fueled William's desire for further NEXUS material, but not before taking the old demo songs and giving them a proper recording. This newly reworked EP, now titled "Astrophysical", is a tour-de-force of progressive melodies, atmospheric ambience, and crushing metallic heaviness; the three demo songs were present, as well as a brand new composition that showcases further musical evolution..... Sit back, close your eyes, and prepare for a mystical journey in space...
