The Ranks like to consider themselves as an Experimental Alternative Pop-Blues band, with just a hint of Reggae. Hailing from Akron, Ohio, home of The Black Keys, The Ranks have found themselves transforming with each new member to come and go. Eventually, leading to what they have become today. Originally started by band members, Jeff “Are You Gonna Eat That?” Stayer, and Reid Christopher Robin Klein, The Ranks quickly grew from an acoustic country duo, to the jumble of genre’s they are currently pushing out today.
Jeff Stayer, the mastermind behind the operation, brings his Jack Johnson like calmness, vocals, and acoustic fury front and center. On stage left, bassist, Reid Klein has the heart of an old-punk spirit such as, Sid Vicious, or Dave Blood. Eddie Whitt has the 50's beat-bop leads, a sound stemming from one of his favorite bands, Coheed and Cambria. The addition of Creed’s biggest and only fan, drummer Dan “The Man” Gardner, delivers beats that are as catchy as the songs themselves; making him the Dave Grohl to their yang. Rounding out the sound is the sultry vocal styling of Meagan Horrigan, whose embodiment can only be found in the early 20’s inside a speak-easy, dropping jaws and grabbing ears. This smorgasbord of musical influences has ultimately created a unique sound drawing in local audiences to pack the hole in the wall bars they’ve come to know and love.
