BIOGRAPHY

'I'm a one man band' sang Leo Sayer in the seventies, a simple concept, the meaning of which has changed much in the intervening years. Now a one man band can sound like an orchestra. I am a solo singer-songwriter going under the name of 'Solarisdreams'. I tell a story, having something to say, these songs are like a diary of my life and times, the people I have met, the places I have been. Experience distilled into music.....

I started out learning to play the acoustic guitar. I picked this up fairly quickly, but soon found I had more of an aptitude for the Bass (less strings and less confusion!!!). This lead to playing in a heavy metal band with friends whilst at high school. People came and went and the line up constantly changed. This was when I began to write down my thoughts and slowly these took on the form of lyrics, which I then set to music. This was hit and miss to begin with, but with time these improved, helped along the way by some lessons in music theory and basic techniques for bass guitar. My style has developed over the years, not so heavy and more melodic, more progressive, mainly influenced by Rush and, over the years by the people that I have played with and the different styles that I have had the opportunity to play. In both original and cover music groups, in many different genres (rock, metal, blues, sixties, orchestral, theatre music), both live and in the studio. The most recent project that I was involved in was a covers band, Ashbury Heights, playing Sixties standards.

I write and record my own music in my own small studio, playing all the instruments and singing all the vocal parts. I also produce, mix and master the material myself. You can find this at the Solarisdreams web store. I am adding to this catalogue on a regular basis, so watch this space.

INFLUENCES

I have eclectic tastes and have been influenced by many artists throughout my career, from my early roots in Heavy Metal, through Rock, Prog Rock and Blues, into more modern guitar based music. The following is a bit of a who's who of guitar music, but these are my favourites for many reasons (and some more than others), whether they are great performers, song writers, producers or a combination of each. It's a bit of a list, but I can't think of another way of doing this!!!

Black Sabbath, Cream, Deep Purple, The Eagles, ELO, Elvis Costello, Eric Clapton, Genesis, The Jam, Jeff Berlin, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon, Led Zeppelin, Paul Weller, Pink Floyd, Rush, The Travelling Wilburys, U2,The Who, Yes.

Yes, I know, most of them absolute genius. But these are my favourites and, old or new, have influenced me throughout my career.

OTHER PROJECTS

I have taught Music Technology at Braintree College as a module within the Performing Arts BTEC course in 1995 to 1996. A beginners introduction to recording and the techniques and technologies involved.
