Bio:
Steve Smith got started as a song-writer in 2000 in a college band called "Left of Lunatic". After a modest number of performances at parties and small bars around Raleigh, the band broke up in 2002. Steve kept writing songs and demoing them in his apartment. In mid-2003 Steve began performing these songs at the Six String Cafe open-mic night. Some of the songs were good... others weren't. There he started friendships with local stalwarts such as Nathan Davis. A few months later he started a band called "The Jackhonks" with friends Mike Rogers and Jeramy Bell. Still staying in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, they shared the stage with the likes of Spencer Acuff and other local acts. After a fairly sucessful local run, the band fizzled and Steve moved on to form an acoustic coffeehouse act called Stephen Fell Asunder, borrowing the moniker from the title of a Mike Garrigan song, and released "If I Was a Millionaire EP". This new incarnation featured Ben Ogorek on keys, and Sarah Martin on percussion. They played everywhere from Boone, NC to Columbia, MD. The single, My Mistakes, got limited air-play on the University of Maryland's college radio during this period and the band performed with many great acts including Nathan Davis Band, Mike Garrigan, Jason Adamo, and Karen Scuderi. Lately, you'll find Steve performing solo shows at coffeeshops and small bars. Recent gigs include Deep South the Bar, Electric Beanz, Guess Rd Starbucks, The Pour House, The Berkeley Cafe and Holly Springs Cultural Center with artists like Jason Adamo, Adam Pitts, Chris Titchner and Mike Garrigan. A studio album titled "Steve-ing the Story", recorded at Two Egrets Media and Recording and produced by Mike Garrigan, is available now on cdbaby.com and now on iTunes too!
