Artist Bio

Started out as a project with a friend in 1993 writing Christian folk songs. As he moved onto his folk music, I began experimenting with different styles of music. I slowly got myself out of the acoustical folk phase, and went more technical, by incorporating synthesizers, and using various sound modules. Realizing that my strength is in the Rock genre, I expanded out and worked on my guitar skills. I am constantly changing my ideas about how I can improve my song writing.

More About RNG - Rich Nakatsu Group

Why this name?

It's really a solo project. I have members come and go as guest artists. Now, I have many people wanting to collaborate, so I've decided on RNG - Rich Nakatsu Group.

Do you play live? any interesting moments?

I've played live when I was part of a metal group, Fatalis, and a dance rock band called Fynnie's Basement. Embarrassing moment, a bloody nose on Stage.

How, do you think, does the internet (or mp3) change the music industry?

With the boom in making your own Home Studios, there are so many people out there making their own music. With the Internet, the opportunities of having your songs heard is endless. It's great. It's only going to get better. However, at the same time, I think copyright is going to play a vital role in protecting your music.

Would you sign a record contract with a major label?

I would definitely entertain the idea

Your influences?

Most of my songs are instrumental and melodic.  Some artists that are very influential to my musc writing are, Tak Matsumoto, Joe Satriani, and David Gilmour

Favorite spot?

Wherever I go, good food = Good Spot. :D

New humble beginnings

To all my friends here on IMC, it’s official! I have been asked to step into the bass player’s role for Seattle’s hip band, Fynnie’s Basement. They are a group of fun and talented musicians that bring out some awesome tunes! We’re wrapping up our recording sessions at Synergy Productions to release our first album! We will be doing a release party as well! Stay tuned! I am thankful to all my friends here for the encouragement and the many fist bumps. I will continue to write songs for RNG, as… Continue

It's been a while since I last posted songs.  It's also been a a while since I've been together with my bandmates of Fatalis.  Talking with them, we came to an agreement that I can use the songs I wrote for Fatalis, and put them under my Studio band name, RNG - Rich Nakatsu Group.

The first song you will hear on the playlist is the song that I submitted for this year's IMC Music Awards.  The songs that feature Lance Zielinski (Vo) are the songs I wrote.  The songs are much…

HI Rich,  It was so nice to meet up with so many  talented artists at the awards in April.  I am sorry to respond so late.  I was  in the midst of finishing High school and  a very harried time. It was great to be nominated so many times and win several after making the trip again this year.  Keep up the great work, I know it is a strugle sometimes but  you and your music are worth it.  Congratulations to you on all of your achievements!

For sure! We have some big stuff coming up! We're a cover story in the May/June issue of I Am Entertainment magazine. And winning Best Alternative Band the other night is gonna hype us up a lot here back home.
