Courtney “Coozie” Mellers Born in St. Andrew Jamaica to a musical family, Coozie first moved to Portland, then on to the United States and followed his ambition to become a musician. After the completion of high school, Coozie toured Japan with U-Roy, Jackie Mittoo, Mikey Jarrett, Lone Ranger, Prince Buster, etc. to kick start his musical Journey. Over the years, he has played bass, rhythm guitar, piano and arranged songs on albums for some of the founders of reggae such as Lee Scratch Perry, Sugar Minott, Horace Andy, Max Romeo, and Jackie Mittoo, to Name a few. With his band Anthem, Coozie has toured Hawaii, Japan, Korea, Burmuda, Canada, the USA and either backed or shared the stage with names such as Third World, Jimmy Cliff, Maxi Priest, Burning Spear, Lucky Dube, The Wailers, The Isley Brothers, The Neville Brothers, Glen Jones, Tony Orlando, The Temptations, George Benson, Freddy Jackson, Big Youth, Barrington Levy, Gyptian, and a host of others. Anthem was the touring band for Judy Mowatt, former member of the I three’s that sang background for the late Bob Marley. Anthem also appeared on the Conan O’Brian show with Sister Carol. Anthem released 3 CD’s and was signed to Mack Avenue Records for a time. Mack Avenue had Anthem perform shows with Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach.
