Bio:
The Wyld Olde Souls are a female-fronted psychedelic folk band who mesh medieval and world music influences with their passion for late 60s British folk rock. They have been called “NYC’s best kept secret” (Worleygig.com). So far this year, they have been nominated for 5 music awards by The Hollywood Music in Media Awards and The Indie Music Channel Awards, including a nomination for Best Album. The 2013 UK Songwriting Competition selected 'Maybe' as Semi-Finalist. Their song 'Give it to You' is in the documentary 'Who Shot Rock & Roll: The Film' which premiered at The TriBeCa Film Festival in April. In addition, their song 'Anything' was used as the theme song for the UK play 'Marilyn' (about Marilyn Monroe) which premiered at the Midtown International Theater Festival in NYC in 2013.Their album Ensoulment (My Generation Productions) has garnered numerous 5-star and excellent reviews. While comparisons to Jefferson Airplane, Fairport Convention & CSNY have been made, Shindig magazine says, “It sounds at once like all of your favorite works of the genre and yet like none of them" and that "Ivy Vale has a voice you could drown in." The Wyld Olde Souls have been in the Top Ten and the Top 40 numerous times in both the World and Folk Charts at Ourstage.com and featured in The Huffington Post. Their 6-song debut “Poems From the Astral Plane” (Parallel World) gained a cult status among European collectors of the femme folk psych genre. In addition to fervent reviews from abroad describing the band as "mysterious," "bewitching," "classy," "magical," and "transcendent,” the CD is endorsed by Tom Rapp, founder of Pearls Before Swine, who said, “It's good to see that someone is still exploring folk and psychedelia and doing it so well.” The Wyld Olde Souls shared the stage with Grammy winner Roberta Flack at the New York Celebrates George Harrison Concert, produced by Flower Power Creative and Sid Bernstein (the man who brought The Beatles to America). Steve Marinucci from the Examiner.com called The Wyld Olde Souls "a very intriguing quintet of vocalists & instrumentalists who definitely take top honors for originality." Reverb Nation selected The Wyld Olde Souls as their Featured Artist of the Week, putting them in the Indie Spotlight. "The Wyld Olde Souls combine folk, rock, progressive and Celtic music into their musical pot 'o' gold with sweet enchanting vocals to grab you instantaneously and leave a lasting impression." (Muzikreviews.com) They have performed at the Made in the Berkshires Festival, Pagan Odyssey Festival, Drom, Webster Hall, Arlene's Grocery, Maxwells, CBGBs Gallery, and more. The Wyld Olde Souls: Ivy Vale (lead vocals, guitar, hand percussion), Rick Reil (vocals, guitar, electric sitar), Marlene Reil (vocals), Kristin Pinell Reil (vocals, flute, guitar, mandolin), and Naren Budhakar (tablas). Rick Reil and Kristin Pinell Reil are also members of the critically acclaimed NJ psychedelic power pop band The Grip Weeds (Rainbow Quartz/Wicked Cool Records). Naren Budhakar has studied with tabla maestro Samir Chatterji and performed with Terry Riley, Ustad Mashkoor Ali Khan, Alms for Shanti, and La Monte Young.
