Bio:
Gideon King is a New York City composer, guitar player, and producer known for his work with some of the world's finest musicians. His projects move through a wide array of musical genres including pop, funk, rock, jazz, and fusion. His biggest influences are Steely Dan, John Coltrane, Neil Young, Earth, Wind & Fire, Wayne Shorter, John Scofield, Seal, Pat Metheny, and so many more in the classical, jazz, and pop world. He has produced and collaborated with many world class performers such as John Scofield, Chris Potter, Marc Broussard, James Genus, and Grace Weber. His solo work has garnered great reviews.

Recently, Gideon has made a long term commitment to creating the best studio band on the earth and he is calling the effort City Blog. Gideon King & City Blog is about bringing together the best fusion and jazz musicians in the world to support Gideon's pop, funk, and crossover compositions. Gideon plays lead electric, acoustic, and synth guitars on all the songs and is supported by great musicians all the way through.

Two bass players support the rhythm section of the City Blog CD. James Genus, one of the world's great bass players, plays on all but one of the compositions. Genus is Herbie Hancock's bassist, Daft Punk's bassist, and is also known for being the bass player on the Saturday Night Live Band. Matt Penman, a staple on the jazz scene, plays upright bass on the bluegrass/funk tune Glide. Well regarded drummers Willard Dyson and Donald Edwards, both known for their eclectic skills and for playing with a wide array of world famous musicians, add to the "pocket" of the music with Dyson playing on every track but Down. Kevin Hays, who has toured with John Scofield and recorded with Brad Mehldau, plays keys. Donny Mccaslin, one of the most sought after jazz saxophonists on the scene in New York City, plays tenor sax and flute solos on See In Double and Friendship Cliché. World renowned trumpet player Mike Rodriguez blows mightily on Friendship Cliché.

City Blog's vocal team features established artists and stars on their way up. Marc Broussard, world famous for his "Bayou Soul" sound and deep and rich voice, sings on two of the tunes, Down and New York Is. Carolyn Leonhart, known for being a regular member of Steely Dan's vocal team, is a big part of the vocal texture of City Blog, singing both lead and background vocals throughout the effort, most notably on City Blog, See In Double, Friendship Cliché and Just Play. Grace Weber, who was awarded 2015's "Best Artist On The Verge" by New Music Seminar and who has performed on the Oprah Winfrey show is featured on the CD on the songs What Say You and Glide. Her voice is also heard adding bluesy background vocals on Down, New York Is and Dirty Bastard. Elliott Skinner, whose work has gone viral on the internet with his band Third Story, is another well-known rising star; he sings on Dirty Bastard and the title cut, City Blog. Saul Kurtz, a percussive and soulful solo artist known for his vulnerable and distinctive voice, also sings on Just Play, See In Double and City Blog.

Gideon is bringing back real music, with real chord changes, real solos, real instruments, and real humans improvising and lending their souls to the City Blog effort.

Born and raised in New York City, Gideon has seen a lot. Playing guitar since he was ten years old, studying with some of the best jazz and classical musicians in New York City, and being a well-known hedge fund manager in another life, Gideon brings true New York perspective to the New York studio band, here to stay, City Blog.
