Bio:: n the music community of Philadelphia, bonds are made quickly. Jeanette and Ian met at The University of the Arts, Ian in his graduate year and Jeanette in her last year of undergrad. Through hapenstance meetings and regular conversations, they formed not only a friendship, but a strong musicial bond. Ian said to Jeanette one day, “You need to write more music.” So she did. She came to Ian with many ideas, full songs, arrangement ideas and lyrics. They recorded their first EP, “Peace, Love and Music” in the Spring of 2008 out of Ian’s house. This music had to come to life in performance and they had some ideas of who could do that best. The Soul Nerds were born in a rehearsal for their first show on October 14th, 2008. From that day on, there has been a revolving cast of musicians, but the core of Jeanette Berry and the Soul Nerds is Ian Rafalak as Music Director and Bass player, Anwar Marshall on drums, Ian Brick on Guitar, LaTasha Morris and Andre Webb as background singers. The Soul Nerds are a mixture of R&B, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, Rock and whatever they feel in the moment.
